There is no clearer way to say it……Nisie Vorachard is a talented and beautiful floral designer. You can see her passion as you browse her website, but she is more magnetic in person. Her personality and sweetness are captivating and you quickly grow to admire and respect her. LLL was privileged to interview Nisie, and we were lucky to join her in an almost magical place, her home garden.
As we entered her backyard we instantly hear birds singing. They chirp in delight as they find their way to several Monk Statue bird baths. There are even two blue birds, one of which has become an unofficial pet. Nisie calls him by his nick name BJ for Blue Jay. He greets her as he first sits and sings in the trees, carefully watching her in that delicate sideways gaze sort of way that only birds can do. He draws closer as she prepares to place a peanut into her hand. She tells us that if she’s not outside he will gently tap on the kitchen window when he sees her inside to let her know he is here.
But the most surprising thing that happens is a warm feeling of serenity as we relax to the soft, gentle music. It is hard to find this tranquility these days. Nisie spends as much time as she can here, deep in thought while reading Architecture Digest. Her favorite moments are those filled with calm as she maintains her organic vegetable garden. Walking down the paths we find romaine, celery, broccoli, kale, peas, Thai basil, tomatoes, cauliflower, carrots and even brussel sprouts. And then of course there are the fabulous exotic flowers, like the Lady Slipper Orchids and a Golden Trumpet Tree. Her garden is fillied with hundreds of orchid plants and thousands of floral stems on any given weekend.
I asked Nisie what her favorite flower is, and with great contemplation and even a bit of hesitation she lets it slip, the graceful garden rose. But as she looks around she realizes there are many others that she loves, and she quickly adds peonies. You can’t go wrong with either. Having grown up on a Phalaenopsis Orchid farm Nisie has a special love for the fragrance of flowers. She favors Jo Malone’s “Roses” perfume and she fills her work space and her living room with her favorite Saijo persimmon scented candle from Volupsa (which you can find in her gift shop).
Nisie and her crew prep and produce hundreds of weddings and events each year. Based in Los Alamitos, Nisie is centrally located between Los Angeles and Orange County, and she works regularly in all areas from San Diego to Santa Barbara.
