Katharine Kidd was raised in Atlanta and spent summers in Paris which all laid the groundwork for her feminine and tailored designs. Launching her own line in 2010, Katharine gravitates towards colors and patterns. Her line is described as contemporary and sculpted, with stand out prints. When asked about her patterns, she states: “We generally start our with a overall concept for each season that the entire fabric story is based on. The first print we ever did was the idea of a black rose. We then work with our print designer with how we want the layout to appear. For Spring, we did a print where we had our photographer (John Hong) take a picture of one of our old gowns. He put a filter to make it look like an X-ray. We then developed this into a print. The idea was to make a dress on a dress!”
Using lots of Faille (one of her go to fabrics) as it’s a material with texture that holds pleats nicely. We see her skirts and dresses as statement pieces; bold, fresh and fluid. Slightly obsessed with how some of her skirts fly with the breeze and are so flattering on the hips. She likes to highlight curves by accenting the waistline, minimizing the hips, which can be hard, especially in skirts with volume. But she does it so effortlessly. Katharine loves dark midnight Navy in spring instead of black and always has in her mind any shade of green.
Luxe Tip: Worn not only by some of Hollywood’s fashion icons, Rooney Mara, Kate Beckinsdale, Rachel McAdams and Emmy Rossum, but we believe that “Brides-to-Be” can wear any of her flowy dresses or full pleated skirts for their engagement session, they are breathtaking and timeless fashion pieces.
