Founded in 2012, Hinoki & the Bird is a travel inspired dining concept that pushes modern California cooking to vibrant new bounds. Led by Executive Chef Brandon Kida, the menu highlights a colorful kaleidoscope where bright flavors, a healthful sensibility, and technique harmoniously collide. Hinoki & the Bird recently announced the debut of their ICHIBA tasting menu which will be exclusively available on Wednesday evenings. The inspiration to institute these dinners for guests comes from Kida and the team’s weekly Wednesday morning visits to the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market – a steadfast ritual for many of Los Angeles’ elite chefs and iconic restaurants. ICHIBA means “market” in Japanese. As executive chef Kida explains, “The goal with the dinners is to instill a tangible sense of time and space for those visiting Hinoki & the Bird. Visiting the Santa Monica Farmers Market each Wednesday morning, watching it change through each season, week to week, it’s a very intimate process for any devoted chef. It’s marked by key aromas, colors, and textures throughout the year. These dinners will allow us to share even more of that personal experience with our loyal guests and anyone trying Hinoki & the Bird for the first time.”
The ICHIBA tasting menu is Hinoki & the Bird’s tribute to the timeless and global tradition of great chefs utilizing great local markets to create one of kind epicurean experiences. Guests may find Santa Barbara Spot Prawns, Artichoke Tempura, or Wagyu Beef on their Wednesday menu. Or for those that are creature of habit eaters, one won’t be disappointed with their daily offering of Chili Crab Toast, Butter Lobster Ramen, Hinoki scented Black Cod and Miso marinated Flat Iron Steak. And lets’ not leave out the Miso Donuts with honey caramel and Pumpkin Mousse with almond streusel, apple, cinnamon ice cream.
Due to its prominent location on Century Drive, the venue is highly sought after for private dinners, celebrations, and rehearsal dinners for weddings next door in Beverly Hills. We swooned over their private patio, design so comfortably with natural light- we all need a break from our office lights. The patio can accommodate 120 seated for dinner. Full restaurant buyout is available.
Luxe Tip: The ICHIBA menu, which each Wednesday will feature five-courses for $95++, also includes the option for guests to add a wine pairing, curated by Hinoki & the Bird sommelier Noel Baum, for an additional $65++. For those who prefer cocktails to wine, bar manager Feisser Stone will present a unique farmers’ market inspired cocktail each week ($15) as an additional option.
