Kelly “Dlux” McCoy and Michelle Kim have been married since 2012 (12/12/12 to be exact) and have worked in the wedding industry a total of 13 years between the two of them. By the time they got married, they were both very familiar with all that goes into planning the “perfect day” but realized there was not much talk about what happens after the wedding day. This peaked their interest as they began to realize that the wedding day may be important but a great marriage is far more valuable.
Creative Marriages came from a pure curiosity of how other self-employed couples balance work and life. Kelly is a corporate and wedding DJ/emcee at Dlux Entertainment and Michelle runs Michelle Kelly Photography. They found that it was easy to prioritize work and clients over one other which caused them to wonder if other self-employed couples struggled with the same thing. Turns out they do. Kelly and Michelle reached out to a variety of married couples in the creative industry and asked them how they are able to manage their business without compromisin their relationship. They supplemented the interviews with an editorial- style photoshoot and the information that they received became axioms of wisdom that helped guide their own marriage. Kelly and Michelle end up posting the photos and responses on their blogs and received positive feedback from their readers.
What started out as a personal passion turned into a business project that celebrates marriage and leaves couples with a memento that reminds them why they got married in the first place. The Creative Marriages conversation encourages spouses to find creative ways to continue to date one another because, as Kelly likes to say, “Whatever you did to get ‘em is what you have to do to keep ‘em!” Creative Marriages photography sessions bring couples closer together. They celebrate and prioritize marriages as the most important relationship in the couple’s lives. “We go to great lengths to provide the highest quality portrait session that marriages deserves and produce images that remind them of why they married their spouse,” says Michelle.
